Summer is near again and I'm sure, many people are dying to get back in shape. It usually reminds us about beach volleyball, island hopping, fruit juices, and of course, great beach summer bodies under the sun. Swimming is always "in" during summer. As I always say, just like many fitness experts are saying, swimming is a great choice. Aside from swimming, you can do lots of activities in the water such as kayaking, open water swimming, banana boating, surfing etc. These activities will make your summer a meaningful one. It will help you burn more calories while you are enjoying the good times with friends or family. Some of preparations and rituals that you could also consider in your list are as follows in no particular order:

1. Low impact exercises. Choose an exercise that will suit your lifestyle. Exercise is a must and shall always be in your list.

2. Schedule of meaningful activities. Putting activities that would help the country, society or environment is also a good option. Tree-planting in your company outing is very helpful and great for the mother earth.

Tips in Choosing a Swimming Coach or School

There are many things to consider in finding the right swimming school for you. Based on my experiences as swim instructor, I created my own list of considerations. One of the important factors is convenience. It is  important because of the busy lifestyle of most clients nowadays. In terms of convenience, It involves the area where you live and the time of travel to the pool venue. Other factors to consider are the following:

1. Certification. This is related to the safety issue in the pool. Certified coaches are generally trained to handle first aid and water safety procedures. They can respond immediately to emergency situations.

2. Years of experience or Years of operation. A long running school has somehow established a good reputation in the swim coaching industry, however, you still need to check the current operation of the school to ensure if they had maintain the quality of instruction.

3. Location. This is related to the issue of convenience. Choose a school that is near your place to save time and effort, just make sure that the coach or the swim school offers a competitive lesson package.

4. Number of students. If you are a sociable person and preferred to learn in group, then, class
type is best for you on the other hand, you may also want to enroll in a one-on-one lesson package.

5. Actual coaching ability or teaching method. If you are not convinced about the teaching style or method, you can ask for a demo teaching or observe the on-going lesson.

6. Success and feedback of former students. One indication of a good coach or swim school is the word of mouth of the former students as well as their success in the field of swimming whether it is competitive or for fitness.

7. Cost. Compare the prices and packages that the swim school offers. You deserve the best instruction for a reasonable amount.

Swimming Pool Selection Series-Air Force Pool

The Main Pool
Kiddie Pool
Are you looking for a pool to lap after office? If your answer is yes, then, let me introduce the Philippine Air Force Swimming Pool (PAFSP). This pool is one of my best choices due to its strategic location and beautiful landscape.

I was a witness of how the air force pool transforms its look over the years. It was renovated to meet the demands of its clients. It was almost one year when the newly renovated PAFSP was launched to the public. On its launching, the administrator opened the pool for public swimming in a span of one week for free. After that week, the pool formally started the new operation.  From the entrance fee of 50 pesos, it became 100 pesos which I think still reasonable.

The features and facilities of the pool are:
-          It is well-landscaped
-          It is surrounded by trees that makes the pool area tranquil
-          It has 24-hour lifeguards on-duty
-          It is a safe place
-          It has gazebos, cottages, and shower rooms
-          It has two kiddie pools.

It is located beside the Villamor Golf Club building. If you are driving, the wide parking space outside the pool area is available most of the time. It is approximately 25-30 minutes drive from Market Market, 30-35 minutes from Ayala and 15-25 minutes from NAIA. For commuters, take the gate three jeepney ride from Market Market or gate three tricycle ride from Mantrade/Magallanes MRT station (in front of Southgate Mall) to reach 7 Eleven-Bonifacio. From 7 eleven just take a walk to the pool area passing the Nichols Bridge then head directly to the golf club (turn right) through the gate ten.

The lap pool size in length is 25 by 15 meters with a deep of four and five feet. The two kiddie pools are two and three feet in deep. The pool is cleaned and treated every Monday. It operates and is open for public from Tuesdays through Sundays from 8am to 9pm. It is close for public swimming when the venue is reserved and is used for a special occasion. The pool is also open for reservations for different events such as parties and exclusive company or family outings.

Try this pool and have a relaxing time with your friends or families because you deserve a treat after that hectic day. Enjoy your swimming and thank you for patronizing my blog.
